Experiments with Coatings

There are many different types of coatings available for blades, handles, and other components on a knife. We have always been interested in seeing what’s possible and a couple of years ago started using PVD coating. Although incredibly strong it’s limited by only being available in black. On top of that it doesn’t play well with anodizing. Because we always like to evolve in the past months we have started to experiment with other types, specifically Cerakote and GunKote. Both of these are great because they allow an infinite number of colors and potential variants, and, as you can imagine, with our “never the same” mantra that is exactly what we need. However Cerakote has a thickness to it when applied and due to the very tight tolerances on our knives it wasn’t the best solution. It worked just fine but then we discovered another product, 2400 Series Gun Kote by KG Industries. We noticed that it applies much thinner and offers just as much if not more flexibility in color and variation. At the time of this posting we’re still exploring what’s possible and doing tests, to see which type is truly best. Stayed tuned for more and in the meantime enjoy this gallery of our knives that utilize these fun coatings.
